Netflix Releases Trailer for Season 5 of 'The Crown'

Season 4 ended up with Margaret Thatcher’s removal from office, which happened in November 1990.  It’s rumoured that season 5 will ‘focus on the royal family’s life from early-to-mid 1990s.’  Season 5 is also said to focus on Charles and Diana’s marriage – they separated in 1992 and divorced in 1996, one year before Diana’s fatal car accident.

Meet the cast of The Crown, season 5.

Imelda Staunton (Harry Potter, Downtown Abbey) will take over the role of Queen Elizabeth II (previously played by Olivia Colman) for seasons 5 and 6.  Imelda said in a statement, “As an actor it was a joy to see how both Claire Foy and Olivia Colman brought something special and unique to Peter Morgan’s scripts. I am genuinely honoured to be joining such an exceptional creative team and to be taking The Crown to its conclusion.”

Elizabeth Debicki will play Prince Diana in the final two seasons of The Crown.  “Princess Diana’s spirit, her words and her actions live in the hearts of so many.  It is my true privilege and honour to be joining this masterful series, which has had me absolutely hooked from episode one,” Elizabeth said in a statement.
