Vanessa Oliver, will be sitting atop a flagpole for 5 days to raise money for diabetes research.
Thirty-two years ago, her father Peter Oliver also spent a week living on top of 40-foot flagpole at Toronto’s Mel Lastman Square. He raised $250,000 for Type 1 Diabetes research. At that time Vanessa, was 10 years old, and had been diagnosed four years earlier at age six. Today Vanessa, now 42 will go up her own 40-foot flagpole for 100 hours from April 4-8 outside Toronto’s General Hospital as part of a country-wide goal to raise $15 million for Junior Diabetes Research Foundation’s campaign to accelerate T1D research.
