The New York Times put people to work to figure out whether it’s more efficient to walk/run up an escalator or just stand there. The results were unanimous: If EVERYONE just stood there and enjoyed the ride, we would all get to our destination at a quicker speed, on average. When some people stand and other walk/run, it causes a backup, a line and general chaos. When this occurs, it takes the average “stander” 138 seconds to go up or down an escalator and a “walker” 46 seconds. If everyone stood, we would all make it to our destination in 59 seconds. (I STILL hate ‘standing’ on an escalator! It makes me feel lazy! Am I weird? lol) (Photo: Free Code Camp)
