Based on a study called “Why Night Owls Are More Intelligent,” by authors Satoshi Kanazawa and Kaja Perina, we’re told that ignoring our alarm clocks, hitting snooze, and sleeping for longer makes us more intelligent. The reason? Alarm clocks are a new innovation in comparison to human evolution, and acting on what your body needs, in this case more sleep, means that you’re seen as more independent, creative, ambitious, and more likely to tackle problems head on than someone who gets up when their clock tells them to.

Another study was conducted by the University of Southampton, which looked at the socioeconomic situations of 1,229 people in relation with their sleep cycles and habits. Those who went to bed after 11 p.m. and got up after 8 a.m. earned more money and enjoyed a happier lifestyle.
