2018 has gotten off to a great start all thanks to one former *NSYNC member, Justin Timberlake who just released his fifth solo studio album, Man of the Woods.

In a trailer introducing Man of the Woods, Justin revealed the inspiration behind the new project,

“This album is really inspired by my son, my wife, my family, but more so than any other album I’ve ever written, where I’m from. It’s personal.”

Man of the Woods features the lead single, ‘Filthy’ which was co-written and co-produced by Justin, Timbaland and Danja.

Prior to the album’s release, Justin released three other tracks, ‘Supplies’

The very first time I head ‘Supplies’ I immediately thought it would sound great with a Migos verse. That trap sound is very popular in today’s hip-hop / pop music, but not having them didn’t hurt the song; I did like it better than ‘Filthy’.

Justin’s collaboration with country music superstar Chris Stapleton was one of the more highly anticipated tracks off Man of the Woods and the two did not dissappoint.

This wasn’t the first time the two had worked together as they took the stage at the 2015 Country Music Awards together; this is however the first time they’ve collaborated on a song.

On the same day of its release, Justin released the music video of the album’s title track.

The video was directed by Paul Hunter and Prettybird and features Justin living n the country side and features an appearance by his wife, Jessica Biel.

On Man of the Woods, Justin teamed up with producers Timbaland and Pharrell.

It’s been a minute since JT has worked with Pharrell – the two worked together on his Justified album – he explained to Beats 1’s Zane Lowe about why it’s taken so long for the two to work together.

“I was not able to work with Pharrell out of a … and I’ve got to say this the right way because I don’t want to blame anybody for anything, but it did change the course of things for a minute,” he explained. “Everyone remembers [the recording duo Clipse, feautred on ‘Like I Love You’]. Clipse was signed to Jive Records, which I was signed to. I don’t know what went on with their deal, but I do remember that Pharrell was very adamant about getting them out of the deal. So it became from my understanding, you know, it became challenging for him to work with any Jive artist at that point.”

“If I’m being totally honest about it, I was extremely hurt being caught up in the middle of it,” Timberlake added. “At the same time, I had a shitload of money stolen from me by somebody else when I was in the group. I had already gone legal troubles and I kind of felt like, you know what, I’m at this point where I feel like I have so much ahead of me, I don’t want to be in the middle of the record label and somebody that, you know, I consider a friend. So, I feel like I kind of removed myself from the situation.”‘

In just a few days, Justin will perform as the headliner for the SuperBowl Halftime Show where it’s a given he’ll perform a few tracks off Man of the Woods.

For me, my favourite song off Man of the Woods is, ‘Higher Higher’. Love the vibe and I first knew I liked the song after Justin posted this on his Instagram…
