87 year old Mona Piper is a lot of things. She’s a crossing guard, a local legend, and an absolute sweetheart.

Piper has served as a crossing guard near Davisville and Bayview Avenue for 43 years, but this year she won’t be returning to her post.

Due to health issues, the popular community fixture has had to hang up her safety vest, but she will still be able to see her favourite faces as she lives right beside the cross walk she used to guard.

CityNews chatted with the queen herself back in 2011, and as you can see she’s quite the character.

Congrats to Mona and her decade of keeping the roads safe! Enjoy your retirement! You have EARNED it!
