Prepare to cut back – hydro rates are on the way up starting today!

The Ontario Energy Board is increasing the rate differential between off-peak hours and on-peak rates.

Summer rates: May 1 to Oct. 31, when the days are hottest and air conditioners run on high.

On-peak: In effect from 7 to 11 am & from 5 to 7 pm. This rate jumps to 16.1 cents per kWh, up 2.1 cents.

Mid-peak: In effect from 12 pm  to 5 pm, this rate jumps almost a cent per kWh, to 12.2 cents from 11.4 cents.

Off-peak: Between 7 pm and 7 am, plus round the clock on weekends and holidays. This rate rises to 8 cents per kWh, from 7.7 cents per kWh.
