A 10-year-old Toronto girl who was born with autism as well as a genetic disorder stunned her parents and therapists with her ballet performance that has now gone viral on YouTube.
Clara Bergs’ four-minute solo from Coppelia, which she memorized, was posted on YouTube by her therapist last month, and the video has been viewed nearly half a million times.
According to the family’s website, clarabergs.tumblr.com, the video has spread all around the world, with audiences in Australia, Taiwan and the United States.
Bergs was born DiGeorge syndrome, which caused huge learning difficulties as well as eating problems.
Not only did she memorize an entire four-minute dance, that she was able to dance at all was a miracle: Bergs didn’t walk until she was four years old.
The family credited therapists and the Intensive Multi Treatment Intervention program (IMTI) with helping their daughter live as normal a life as possible.
However, the government doesn’t cover that therapy. The Bergs family are appealing for donations online.
