It’s time to give pop renditions of “Call Me Maybe” a rest and let classical music have its moment. Check out 3Penny Chorus and Orchestra’s rendition of Carly Rae Jepsen’s official song of the summer!
Arranged by Colin Britt and Arianne Abela and orchestrated by Britt, the volunteer ensemble was also conducted by Abela and recorded performing Jepsen’s track in New Haven, Connecticut, earlier this month.
Britt “holds a bachelor’s degree in music composition from the Hartt School and a master’s degree in choral conducting from the Yale School of Music and Yale Institute of Sacred Music,” explains his website.
He also says, “We had a blast putting this together, and we’re amazed at the enthusiastic reaction the video has gotten online! Thanks to all of these wonderful performers and editors for making this possible!!”
Garnering over 520,000 views, the reaction to the clip has been enthusiastic and also comes with viewer comments like, “This should be played as a soundtrack for an epic movie,” and, “THAT WAS FLIPPING AWESOME!!! Why can’t all top hits sound like this? PURELY AWESOME!!”
Some viewers even prefer this version of the infectious pop song to Jepsen’s track, leaving notes like, “This is seriously great! I’ve listened to it 10 times in the past half hour! About 895438590257636903 times better than the original!,” and, “The only thing good about the song is here. Great vid
