Darryl & Julie were talking about this woman in the States who was featured on 20/20 last week.
A 29-year-old woman from San Francisco struggling with body image issues swore off mirrors for a year — refusing to glimpse her reflection even on her wedding day. Kjerstin Gruys told ABC News that she launched the no-mirrors project while she was planning her wedding and realized too much focus was on her appearance. Even shopping for her wedding dress made her miserable. So the bride-to-be learned to hang a curtain over her bathroom mirror for when she brushed her teeth, to apply her makeup by touch, and put in her contact lenses without watching. When Gruys finally looked into a mirror a year later, she said: “I was happy with what I saw.” She documented the project on her blog www.ayearwithoutmirrors.com and is now writing a book about the experiment.
