You can get in the garden right now and plant me. You’re welcome.
You know, you humans are funny. You call a guy a “pansy” to insult him. Like calling him a wimp. Right? Sigh. WRONG! We pansies are anything but. We are strong. Tough. We can stand up to frost. Heck, we can stand up to snow! Yep. You read right. We LAUGH at snow. Which is why we said off the top that we’re here to save you. Save you from that long, bleak, colourless winter. We know you’re just itching to get in the garden…but plant annuals before the May long weekend and there’s a good chance they will die. DIE! Oh…except for one annual. That’s right. Us. We are pansies. Here us roar. Click here for the proof!

Speaking of flowers, I remember growing up in Scarborough dad had lilac trees in the backyard (years later I found out that it was to remind him of home because back home you can’t walk anywhere without running into a lilac tree. So much for the song “Don’t Sit Under a Lilac tree, with anyone else but me!”).
I also remember him planting “geraniums” as well as those white bushes (Winter????). The bushes have small white flowers and look like it’s snowing when you shake them because the tiny petals come off so easy. Those are backyard memories from childhood. We also had two apple trees (a macintosh and granny smith apple tree as well as a bartlet pear tree too).
One day when Fiona and me have a place of our own I would like to see some those flowers and plants in our backyard as a reminder from childhood. Certainly would be a positive thing now would it.
