Today marks the start of LENT – the 40 days leading up to Easter on the Christian calendar. Often Lent is marked by someone giving up something for that period, whether it’s beer or chocolate or something else that is tough to live without until Easter Sunday rolls around. But there’s a movement growing in Pickering – a new twist on Lent.
Erin & Mike spoke with Reverend Jeff Doucette. He’s with Dunbarton Fairport United Church in Pickering, and today they begin something called 40 ACTS.Basically this is a challenge coming out of England to move away from giving up something for Lent to doing random acts of generosity for 40 days to change ourselves and change the world.

I think that’s a “terrific idea” an support the idea entirely because like Erin said, it’s often difficult to “give up” something for 40 days (lack of will power I guess). However, how challenging is it for something to do out of an “act of kindness ” to someone else ( atotal stranger as opposed to somone you already know)? I n my opinion, I thini it would be “quite challenging” for many p eople. I think “random acts of kindness for lent” is a great idea as well as having “Family Day” becoming a National Holiday one day instead of just here in Ontario! What do you think of that? ONe day I Believe it will!
