New Barbie has pink hair, heels, tattoos..(and a dog that seems to be dressed as a cactus, for some reason…?)
Mothers of little girls may be pestered to pick up the newest Barbie.
It’s a collector’s edition doll with pink hair, high heels and tattoos on the neck, chest and left arm.
The Daily Mail reports that some parents have expressed their concerns online about how this is sending the wrong message to impressionable girls.
This isn’t the first time Barbie has been given tattoos.

Mattel had to withdraw the “Butterfly Art Barbie” in 1999 because of complaints, but the “Totally Stylin’ Tattoos Barbie” in 2009 was a sell-out success.
So, is it okay for YOUR daughter? (or son?) Barbie with tattoos?

Personally, having a tattoo of my own, I wouldn’t have aproblem with this. My kids know that what I have is a tattoo, and that it’s permanent, and it took a lot of thought and reasoning behind it!

I am so weary of people who have nothing to do with their lives. Barbie has a tattoo again! Here come the same old comments “Trailer Trash Barbie” “Crack Ho Barbie”. How witty! Let’s repeat the same comments that were tired twelve years ago. Parents, use your brains. This is a fifty dollar doll. Why would you buy a $50 doll for your five year old, when you can buy one for $4 at Big Lots? The answer: you wouldn’t. This is a doll for adult collectors. I’m sick of waiting for the media to grow up and realize that not ‘every’ doll is for children. If you really want to throw away $50, you could give it to me, and I won’t make a mess of your house (Unlike your kids)!

That’s a new one, a Barbie with tattoos! What are the chances of a five or six year old playing with their Barbie and then asking their mother if “can I get a tattoo?” What would parents say after having bought their child a Barbie were confronted with that question because the child found it to look so appealing? I bet there have been some examples of that since the company’s been selling them.
Personally, a child reaches a certain age when their old enough to make a choice regarding tattoos, ear rings, nose rings, certain hair styles etc. These are all “statements” that kids make (I remember someone I know who had spiked hair when he was in his tweens and his mother just took it in stride saying that it was just a phase and sure enough he stopped a couple years later or whatever and his hair got back to a normal style).
I would say they would have to be at a mature enough to make that decision. I would also that five or six year old “why they would want a tattoo and what made them think it was so special that they really needed one?”
Then depending on the answer I would tell them that it’s not what’s on the outside that counts (what you’re wearing, but on the inside; something from RainbowRay at that age, but later when they get older and she still really wants one then I would let her make that decision, but not at that age where their still learning about themselves and growing. Later on as they grow and are able to make “REAL CHOICES and not because “I WANT ONE” and they really don’t know why; it just looks good then they can decide, but I wouldn’t let mine have one until then. They really don’t know why they want one at that stage I believe.
