The Toronto Transit Commission has eliminated a total of 482 positions, Monday, both unionized and non-unionized, in an effort to help balance its 2012 operating budget.
The Commission announced a voluntary separation package for eligible non-unionized employees, who can apply to voluntarily leave the TTC, receiving four weeks pay for every year of service, up to a maximum of 26 weeks. Eligible employees have until October 14 to apply.
On Friday, the Commission recommended a series of measures to deal with the $101 million shortfall, including the elimination of jobs, as well as cuts to Wheel Trans, and fewer buses and streetcars per route, resulting in longer wait times.
The Commission predicts ridership will grow to 503 million in 2012.
I’m no mathematician, but the numbers just don’t add up, with ridership going up, but the number of workers dropping….Is it just me?
