Halfway through the March break!  Running out of ideas?

Before the kids can say “I’m bored,” here is a list of child-friendly events happening in and around town over the break.
March Break at the Ontario Science Centre:

The Science Centre will have extended hours over the break – 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. – from Saturday March 12 to Sunday March 20. Children can enjoy live concerts by Juno-nominated duo Bobs and LoLo, meet the storm chaser host of TV’s angry planet George Kourounis, and witness a live performance by New Zealand based Kahurangi Mori Dance Theatre. Many other exhibits are on only for a limited time. General admission is $20 for adults, $16 for students and $13 for children. Parking is $10. For more information, click here.

March Break Clay Camps at the Gardiner Museum:

Children will be taught to create their own ceramic pots, bowls and sculptures based on beastly animals during a five-day clay camp. Professional ceramic artist Lynn Fisher will be teaching hand and wheel techniques in state-of-the-art clay studios. It costs $175 for the general public and $150 for Gardiner Members’ children and grandchildren, materials and firing included. For more information, click here.

National Film Board Mediatheque workshops for kids:

Kids ages 6 to 13 are invited to explore history, learn about different cultures and animate their own films in interactive workshops offered in both English and French. Workshops run twice daily and cost $5 per child. A parent is required to accompany the child at no extra charge. Call 416-973-3012 to sign up. Parents can also sign their children aged 8 to 13 up for one-week animation camp at a cost of $275. For more information, click here.

Centre for the Arts film camp for teens:

Starting March 14, this five-day intensive camp allows teenagers to produce, write, direct, light, shoot, act in and edit their own films. Daily workshops are led by industry professionals immediately followed by film shoots. All students will receive a copy of the final product, and a screening for family and friends will be held during the camp’s final afternoon. The week costs $425, but Pay-What-You-Can and Sponsorship Program spots are available. For more information, click here.

Spring Fling at Rogers Centre:

From March 11 to March 18, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Rogers Centre will be converted into an indoor carnival with rides (including the brand new Tornado ride), games-of-chance, on stage performances from James Funnyhat, Little Fingers Music and Daring Derek and the Reptilia exotic animal exhibit. Tickets are $20 each but can be bought at Rogers Centre Box Office for $16 between 10 and 11 each morning. For more information, click here.

Theatre Direct at Wychwood Barns: Head a Tete:

Head a Tete is a Canadian play geared towards children which follows the story of two characters as they overcome the barriers of language and mistrust through the power of play. Already on stage at the Wychwood Theatre, tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Wychwood Barns is also home to the interactive ToyBox, a multimedia playground which incorporates large-scale projections, interactive lighting, sonic composition software, individual headphone stations and green screens, and is aimed at all ages. Click here for more information on the play. The Wychwood Studio Theatre is located at 601 Christie Street and is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and is free with admission to Head a Tete.

The Stars of Kids’ CBC Mall Tour:

This March break, take your kids to see the stars of Kids’ CBC. From March 15 to 18, kids of all ages will have the chance to meet the stars of Kids’ CBC and take part in a number of fun events at malls around the GTA. Some of the stars you could meet include, Sid Bobb (host of Kids’ Canada), Jeremie Saunders (host of Artzooka) and Huckle from Busytown Mysteries.
