Have you ever seen a bus driver texting, or talking on the phone?
As photos surface of bus drivers texting while driving, the Toronto Transit Commission is asking its customers to stop taking the pictures.
“We ask that people not do that. We don’t require photographic evidence to discipline drivers,” TTC spokesman Brad Ross said Friday, explaining that “cameras in the face of operators can escalate a situation that doesn’t need to be escalated.”
“I’m not saying we wouldn’t use photographs sent to us (for an internal investigation), just that we don’t require it,” Ross said.
He said that instead of snapping photos, “we ask that they call us, report the bus and route number and date and time of the occurrence.” That kind of information would allow the TTC to conduct a thorough inquiry, he said.

Its a miracle no one was hurt. I just heard Darryl on the radio talking about the TTC not wanting the public to take pictures, just try and stop me, I agree we need to make the public aware immediately if this action is taking place I would even call the police that driver should be ashammed of himself.Who or what was more important than the safety of the passengers as well as himself ? Really we want to know what was so important ?
I take 30 busses a week just to go to work 6 every day 5 days a week. Let me tell you I would be the first to speak up for the safety of the public how dare the TTC to even think we would not take a picture for proof who ever said that comment I wonder is there family on these buses?

I think the public should just leave these TTC employees alone. What this driver did was not right but file a complaint to the TTC not to the media! Would you like it if someone took a picture of you doing something you shouldn’t be doing at work and posted it online or published it in the newspaper?

One day in the last year I was on the 79 scarlett road bus and as we were pulling out of the Runnymede station the driver got on his cell phone and was checking the paper. He stayed on the phone through some pretty narrow streets and all this time he was driving one handed and sometimes used his knee to assist the hand that was on the wheel. Well he stayed on the phone until I got off which was more than10 minutes. When I got off I immediately emailed the TTC through their website…..I never received a response. Surprise surprise.

I live in Brampton and I was taking the bus to work one day and the driver was talking on her cell phone. She was so involved in her cell phone conversation that she went past my stop. I did ring the bell, and as she was passing my stop there were a couple of us passengers who yelled……..\”Hello, we rang the bell\”, but she went another stop past where we were actually getting off the bus. While I was exiting the bus she said, \”I\’m sorry, but I was distracted by my 12 year old daughter on the cell phone\”….

Fire their asses! And…..they should be fined just like the rest of us if we text or use our cell phones while driving. Remember the law that was passed last year????? Public transit drivers should be the least likely to break this law since they are PAID to get the public to their destinations safely… What makes these idiots think they’re above the law? KEEP TAKING THOSE PICTURES FOLKS! TTC officials – DO YOUR JOBS when people complain.
