The action film 300: Rise of an Empire battled its way to $45 million in ticket sales to win the weekend box office race, slashing its way past the animated film Mr. Peabody & Sherman, which collected ticket sales of $32.5 million. Taylor Swift made $39,699,575.60 over the past 12 months, according to Billboard’s just-released list of the music industry’s top 40 money makers of 2014. That figure, which doesn’t even include money made off merchandising, branding and sponsorships, factors in her stature as an “elite artist” on the digital front, where she ranked sixth in raking in 10 million downloads, as well as her physical album sales, which ranked eighth among all money makers on the list. Billboard notes that Swift really shines when it comes to touring, “perhaps the best metric of fan passion,” taking in an estimated $30 million in six months of touring.
